This Dog Is Siberia’s Modern Day Hachiko
Hachiko, the legendary dog of postwar Japan, has found a literal soulmate deep in Russia. Introducing Masha.
It is not a train station that Masha visits, but a hospital, where she visited her owner in his dying days, and continues to visit, oblivious to the knowledge of his death.
Even now, Masha is acting more and more like Hachiko, resisting attempts to be adopted, and continuing her visits to the hospital, where staff have taken to her and ensured she has a place to stay, food to eat, and even people to play with. Perhaps, in her seeming naivite, Masha is more honest about her feelings of the passing of those she cared about than we would wish to share.
