13YO boy dies by suicide after ‘cruel’ bullying; mom urges parents to teach their kids to be kind

A distraught family in Wendell, North Carolina, has spoken out after their beloved 13-year-old boy committed suicide.

Austin Pendergrass was an eighth-grade student at Wendell Middle School, according to reports.

Austin was a wonderful young child, Jessica remarked. He was obsessed with turtles.

He was also quite helpful and  was always eager to jump in and assist with whatever. He enjoyed baking with his mother and siblings.

Austin’s memorial service was conducted Wednesday night in Knightdale, N.C., with balloons released to remember his life. Attendees dressed in red and white, the 13-year-old’s favorite colors.

She just hoped Austin knew all these individuals were here to support him, Austin’s mother, Jessica Pendergrass, said. She just wishes he wasn’t so lonely.

Jessica Harris, the boy’s aunt, stated he had been bullied before committing suicide.

According to accounts, Austin split his time between his mom and dad.

His aunt informed reporters that he had been suffering at school for the last year, owing to bullying in part.

He battled a lot last year, Jessica Harris said. And she believe that was caused by some students bullying him. According to what I’ve heard, he was bullied by a youngster.

It’s very awful, his distraught mother continued. But she really wishes that this raises awareness among other parents to check on their children, be harsh, go through their social media, go through their phones, and figure out what’s going on.

Teach their children to be friendly to other children, especially if they are different from them. And just make sure one listens to their children and are aware of what is going on. And just embrace one’s children even tighter.

The Wake County Board of Education acknowledged the horrific tragedy during a meeting earlier this week on Tuesday.

The town of Wendell will surround the school with nothing but love and support, said Heather Scott, a member of the District 1 School Board.

They will treasure all the memories forever, but nothing will bring their kid back, Austin’s aunt stated.

Bullying, sadly, is a scourge that persists in all spheres of society. Though it is all too widespread among adults, it is maybe even more damaging when it comes to kids.

Please be aware of your children’s behavioral tendencies, both inside and outside the home.

Please join us in sending prayers and love to Austin Pendergrass’ family.
