Boyfriend, 34, stabs pregnant girlfriend because he thought the baby wasn’t his

Oscar Alvarez, 34, from Bronx knifed his 26 weeks pregnant girlfriend, Liv Abreu, 34, more than 6 times and left her bleeding for 30 minutes that causes her to lose their yet-to-born baby.

On Thursday, Alvarez was penalized to 14 year in jail. Liv Abreu’s brother, Juan Carlos said that something may have been wrong with Alvarez’s mental state on the day of the assault.

Oscar Alvarez stabbed his girlfriend several times in the chest and once on the side during an intense argument in their apartment on May 21, 2018. Cops said that they got into a fight regarding the boyfriend’s doubts that his girlfriend was cheating on him.

As per the investigators, Alvarez took a knife and repeatedly stabbed his live-in girlfriend in the upper body. More so, Alvarez left her without any care for about 30 minutes and snatched her cell phone and walked out of the apartment leaving her bleeding.

Alvarez escaped the sight in Abreu’s SUV after the stabbing but turned himself in to police after few hours. Regardless of her wounds, Abreu succeeded to crawl down the stairs to a neighbor’s unit and call for assistance. Abreu was then transported to Lincoln Hospital, where her baby was declared lifeless upon arrival. Abreu was at first listed in life-threatening situation but went on to make a full regaining.

Alvarez supposedly claimed that the violence that killed Abreu’s baby was a misfortune but it later determined that he was the father of the baby.

On Thursday, Abreu was enclosed by her advocate, family and associates and kept a low profile as she wiped tears from her eyes outside a courtroom.

Abreu’s elder brother said that maybe the judgment wasn’t as long as he thinks it should have been but suggested that he was content with his apology.

All through his first court appearance, Alvarez’s Legal Aid lawyer Joshua Hadas told a magistrate that his client is a meticulous man who has no criminal background. The magistrate ordered Alvarez detained without bail.

Abreu worked as a paratrooper and human resources expert based at North Carolina. She received a gradation in political science in 2012 from the City University of NYC and served as a representative for the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.

Abreu and Alvarez worked at a T-Mobile store in Manhattan, where Abreu works as a retail manager. The young duo had existed in the building close to Yankee Stadium for more than a year before the assault. As per their neighbors, they saw no symbols of domestic violence. They said that Abreu was thrilled about her pregnancy and she had of late said how she wanted her mother, who passes away last year, had survived to meet her baby.

All their neighbors are trying to figure out what went wrong when it all looked so right between the live-in couple.
