Elsa Zelaya and her son, Dominick, were crossing Broadaway and 80th Street on Saturday, October 1, 2022, when they were hit by a terrifying tragedy that they had not seen coming.
A tiny black SUV was heading northbound on Broadway at nearly 50 mph in a 35 mph zone when it allegedly hit the mom and her little kid.
The tragic occurrence took place in an unmarked crosswalk in the Florence neighborhood of Los Angeles County, California. Officer Luis Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department stated that there is lighting in the neighborhood. It provides adequate lighting to notice the mother and child crossing the roadway.
According to investigators, the driver of the SUV did not stop to assist the victims or name himself and promptly departed the area. After the terrifying tragedy, Zelaya sustained minor injuries, while her three-year-old son sustained severe, life-threatening wounds.
The officials stated that the small kid underwent procedures and is presently in a serious situation at the Children’s Hospital. According to Zelaya, doctors are unsure if her kid will ever fully recover. Officer Herrera of the LAPD stated that he has suffered major inside damage. He had suffered brain and cardiac damage. He is now undergoing many procedures. He has a long road to rehabilitation ahead of him.
Footage of the terrifying event that went viral revealed the vehicle’s driver decelerating after the impact and then going forward. As per Officer Herrera, the crime is being investigated and the cops are gathering evidence.
