Class Canceled And Decided To Donate The Trip Funds To Their Principal Battling Cancer.

Students in the senior class at Principal Courtney Vashaw’s school in Bethlehem, New Hampshire, were all set to take an annual trip to Rydin’ Hi Ranch in New York for four days. But they decided to do something else with all that money they had raised for the trip.

Courtney had just been diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of cancer, and the senior students at her school decided to give their trip money to her for medical care. That trip money was nearly $8,000.

Says one of those seniors, Ian Baker, about his principal: “She’s just very caring, very selfless, and we wanted to be selfless, too.”

Added senior class president Christopher Sirois: “Every one of us has a connection with her, and she has given so much to us that we just wanted to give back.”

As for Courtney, she just could not believe those students would do something like this for her.

Says Courtney: “It is very hard for me to accept help, and I have no idea what to say to you.”

After Courtney was diagnosed with the cancer, she knew she would have to be away from her school for awhile, so she chose to tell all of her students the truth about what she was going to be dealing with. But previously through Courtney, the students always understood from her that there are so many bigger things in life than themselves. It was a lesson she wanted them to carry into their adult lives. She never expected that that lesson would be proven on her.

Adds Courtney: “They are a pretty remarkable group of people.”
