Almost 2 years ago, Officer Carlos Basurto was involved in a major car accident on his way home from work, which caused him to lose a portion of his left leg. After numerous surgeries, a prosthetic, and putting in the work, today, he returns to full duty as a San Mateo Police Officer.
Surrounded by family, friends and his SMPD teammates, we welcomed Carlos back at the start of his shift. Going through a “modified” reintroduction period, Carlos attended his team briefing this morning and spent the first few hours of his shift with his “FTO”, brother J. Basurto, an SMPD detective.
We are in awe of the strength and dedication Carlos and his family have shown throughout this ordeal. His motivation to return to active status was supported by his co-workers and family, who never wavered in their belief he would get back to work. And, here we are! #42 is 10-8!
