Doctor Canoes To Hospital For An Important Surgery During The Floods.

Many of us watched in horror as Hurricane Harvey hit Texas. But out of it, we also witnessed some amazing stories and incredibly heroic deeds of residents.

Dr. Stephen Kimmel could only watch helplessly as his own home was being consumed by rising floodwaters. Then he got a call that a 16-year-old boy needed immediate surgery at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. So the doctor scrambled to his car and headed that way, but those ever-rising floodwaters stopped him from getting very far.

Two volunteers firefighters were immediately dispatched to help transport the doctor… in a canoe…. and the three paddled toward the hospital in the dark against heavy currents.

Dr. Kimmel walked the last leg of the journey through waist-deep water, and finally made it to the hospital to perform that surgery on the boy.

Says the good doctor: “Sometimes you have to do whatever it takes. This young man’s life would have been changed for the worse forever if we hadn’t been able to perform surgery when we did. In the end, it all turned out very well.”

Ok, check that… did I say Good doctor? I MEANT… the great doctor.
