Grandfather Comes Out As GAY At Age 90.

While all the rest of us were pretty much staying in over the past several months, 90-year-old Kenneth Felts was bound and determined to come out. Out of the closet, that is.

Kenneth, of Arvada, Colorado, had been spending the past few months collecting his thoughts and writing out something of a memoir. In it, he revealed for the very first time that he is gay. He told his daughter first, and then he posted about it on Facebook. That post quickly went viral and Kenneth’s story was picked up by several news agencies around the world.

I AM FREE Kenneth W. Felts I have been asked by several people who have some knowledge of my story "What does a gay…

He has since made appearances on the BBC, Australian television and several shows in the United States. He continues to receive plenty of support from his worldwide followers on Facebook.

Says Kenneth: “Having come out when I did has been the highlight of the rest of my life, I guess. I’ve never enjoyed so much love from unknown people all over the world.”

But Kenneth, who served in the Korean War and was married once, was really caught off guard by all of that attention. Kenneth laughed and said: “I’m just an old guy who’s 90 who decided to get off the closet floor and walk out the door.”

Some may think of it highly unusual to come out at such a late age. But Reynaldo Mireles, director of elder services at The Center on Colfax, explained its merely a process… at any age.

Says Mireles: “Some folks may come out after their spouse has passed away. I believe coming out is a process. “I know that there are people who want to have relationships and may feel like they’re too old, but I believe you can find love at any moment in your life.”

Kenneth said he knew he was gay when he was 12 years old, and he always thought he would take that with him to the grave. But he convinced himself it was finally time to tell the truth.

Says Kenneth: “It’s the freedom of doing whatever I want to do without regard to what other people might think about me. So it’s really been a burden lifted off my shoulders. I’m free, free, free!”
