Grease returns to theaters in honor of Olivia Newton-John

In honor of the late Olivia Newton-John, AMC theaters is re-releasing the legendary picture on the big screen this weekend to raise funds for breast cancer research.

AMC Theaters CEO Adam Aron revealed the announcement earlier this week in a tweet, stating that several AMC Theaters would screen the 1978 classic for $5 per ticket, with all revenues benefiting breast cancer research.

Newton-John was most recognized for her part as Sandy in the famous film, where she co-starred in with actor John Travolta as Danny Zuko.

The actress died earlier this month after a fight with breast cancer. Newton-John was first diagnosed with the cancer in the 1990s and had been in remission for almost 20 years when it resurfaced in 2013. In 2018, she reported that the illness had resurfaced and had metastasized to her spine.

During her breast cancer struggle, Newton-John campaigned to raise awareness for the condition, and in 2012, she built the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Center in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia.

In 2020, she established the Olivia Newton-John Foundation to support cancer research and treatment.
