Harry Was ‘Afraid’ to Attend Grandpa’s Funeral after Mom’s Death Left Him with Trauma ‘Triggers’

Princess Diana, Prince Harry’s mother, died in a vehicle accident in Paris when she was 36 years old. Harry was just 12 years old at the time, and he was heartbroken by his mother’s death. He was at Windsor Castle when she died overseas, so he was not with her in her last moments.

Three other occupants in the automobile were killed on the spot, but Diana was still alive when paramedics arrived. However, she died soon after the tragedy, leaving her two young boys in the care of their father, now King Charles III.

Harry despised having to walk behind his mother’s coffin in the funeral procession.

As he grew older, he started to dabble in things he shouldn’t and frequently found himself on the pages of gossip magazines for partying in a way that did not reflect well on the royal family.

He said that his mother’s burial left him devastated, which contributed to his bad behavior. Following his mother’s death, he followed harmful vices such as partying and addictions. As a member of the royal family, he found himself in a number of contentious circumstances.

However, in his twenties, he began to reassemble his life. He explained his reasoning to the press, yet he admitted that he still has a mischievous streak, which he likes and how he relates to folks who have gotten themselves into trouble.

Harry admitted that he knew that he had to change his ways before it was too late. He realized he couldn’t go on like this for the rest of his life and attempted to discover methods to escape his hurried life.

In his mid-twenties, Harry started to reflect on his life and make changes. It was a long and difficult path for the prince, but he subsequently received assistance from his then-girlfriend, Meghan Markle, when he was in his 30s.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey, Harry stated that he had no intention of slowing down before meeting Meghan. He realized that if he didn’t change his ways, he’d lose her, so he was determined to start mending.

Harry and Meghan’s relationship began with her seeing his rage and advising him that he was required to cope with his trauma. She advised him he needed to go back in time and find a way to deal with his rage and loss.

Meghan assisted Harry by recognizing that he couldn’t keep living the way he was and pushed him to consult a therapist who could help him overcome the PTSD that was bothering him and driving him to be angry.

Twenty-five years after his mother died, Harry had his second major loss. He was not present when his family member died this time since he was living in the United States with his wife.

Prince Philip died in April 2021. On April 9, the royal family confirmed the Queen’s husband’s death, claiming he died peacefully at Windsor Castle. It was then said that other announcements will be made later.

An official of the US Embassy started calling Harry just after 3 a.m. to notify him that his grandfather had died. Harry did not answer the first or any of the subsequent phone calls.

After being unable to contact Harry by phone, the embassy allegedly phoned the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department and requested that one of its deputies drive to Harry and Meghan’s Montecito residence to advise Harry that the embassy was attempting to contact him.

That was done by an officer, and one of Harry’s workers delivered the message to him. He immediately phoned the embassy, where he was informed that his grandpa had died quietly in Windsor.

Prince Philip died at the age of 99, and he was widely mourned. However, the public was upset with Harry’s homage to his grandpa on his Archewell Foundation website.

Harry sent a brief statement in which he paid respect to his late grandfather, saying: “Thank you for your time… You’ll be greatly missed.”

The statement was just white writing on a grey backdrop, and it surprised royal family admirers. Russel Myers, Royal editor, said that he was astonished there wasn’t at least one accompanying image.

People were surprised by Harry’s reaction since he and Prince Philip had always had a strong connection, and it was strange to see Harry not show more empathy at the death of someone he adored.

The public then wondered if Harry would return to the United Kingdom to attend his grandfather’s burial. COVID-19 rules were still in effect at the time, and Meghan was expecting the couple’s second child, Lilibet.

Myers told that while Harry had a plane ready to go to his grandfather’s funeral when the time came, Meghan was uncertain to accompany him because she was in her third pregnancy.

Despite having a plane on standby for weeks before his grandfather’s death, Harry found it hard to leave his son and expectant wife behind when he returned to the UK for Prince Philip’s burial.

The Telegraph published an interview with Harry about his documentary “The Me You Can’t See,” in which he stated that returning to the UK to be with his family after his grandfather died was not an easy option. Flying back into the country was traumatic for him, he added.

When asked if he was able to get over such emotions, Harry replied that it made him nervous and frightened.

While he expressed concern about returning to his native country, he stated that he used therapy lessons to manage his sentiments and manage his emotions. Despite the fact that doing so made it much easier to bear, he admitted that “the heart still pounds.”

Despite having been through a lot before the burial, Harry made it there and joined his family in grieving their grandfather.

Chris Ship, an ITV Royal News Editor, tweeted the whole message from Harry regarding his grandpa after he was chastised for his brief remark following his grandfather’s death.

Harry added in the statement that his grandfather was an excellent man who will be much missed by himself, his wife, and his kids. He also stated that, while Prince Philip was the Queen’s consort, he was just Harry’s grandpa.

Following the death of Prince Philip in 2021, the royal family was dealt another heartbreaking blow when Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022. She was said to have died calmly at Balmoral Castle.

Harry, like his mother and grandfather’s death, was unable to be with the Queen during her dying moments. Harry was in the UK and rushed to Scotland when he learned his grandmother was under medical monitoring, but he wasn’t there in time to say goodbye.

Harry would be devastated by the passing of his grandma because the two were really close. They frequently exchanged jokes, and Harry was known to pull pranks on his grandma throughout the years.

Harry departed Balmoral the morning after his grandma died. He was part of a convoy of royal family members that traveled to Balmoral to mourn the Queen. He then hopped on a plane bound for Aberdeen International Airport.

Harry accompanied his family to the palace to receive the Queen’s coffin, just as he did after his grandpa died. This time, he and his wife, Meghan, traveled together and stood with the rest of the family.
