Keeping up with the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard defamation trial has been difficult. One long-standing question, which was revisited last week, is what occurred to Depp’s amputated middle finger in 2015.
The finger was purportedly amputated when Depp and Heard were renting a property in Australia for the sake of filming a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Heard allegedly tossed a vodka bottle at Depp.

Video featuring Depp in costume as Captain Jack Sparrow at an Australian children’s hospital resurfaced. He jokes to a toddler who asks what happened to his finger that he bruised it really severely. He chewed it off and ate it. He was hungry.

Another Depp video from 2015 was re-posted on TikTok by the account @depphead4everr.
It depicts Black Mass co-star Dakota Johnson presumably glancing at Depp’s finger at a press appearance for the film at the Venice Film Festival. The text over the clip says, “She knows, and I know she knows,” which is from a J. Cole song. That video has received 2.2 million views. Fans sometimes read into facial expressions or body language in Depp footage shared to TikTok and Twitter to reinforce the story they believe.
