Johnny Depp Once Stole Harrison Ford’s Limousine to Escape an ‘Awful’ Time at the Oscars

Johnny Depp has never liked the Academy Awards. When the ceremonies are mentioned in interviews, Depp usually uses the opportunity to express his dislike for them. Appearing on stage at the Oscars at one time did not charm Depp to the elite Hollywood gathering. It could have made him feel worse about the awards ceremony.

Depp’s experience at the Oscars was so bad that he left the ceremony early, just after hijacking Harrison Ford’s limo. Although his nominations and critical accolades as an actor, Depp has always been opposed to receiving the Golden Globe. One of the reasons he never wanted to win one was that The Rum Diary star did not want to speak on stage.

Depp previously explained that he never wants to win one of those things since he rather not have to chat.
Depp has stated that he dislikes the notion of the Oscars in general. This is due to the fact that it sets him against his other performers.

Depp explained that the concept of winning implies that you’re competing with somebody, and he is not competing with anyone. He simply sticks to his beliefs and does what he wants. Others don’t always like it, but that’s fine for him.

Being nominated for the award numerous times was enough for Depp. Depp admitted in March 2001 that he thought the awards ceremony “very, extremely odd” even back then. At the same time, Depp did give the Oscars a try by attending the ceremony despite his reservations.

He explained he felt quite uneasy with the notion. He is not particularly adept at public speaking, and he didn’t want to embarrass himself. But he accepted because he was going to introduce Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young singer Neil Young.

His suspicions were true, since when he got to the Oscars, he felt uneasy very soon. Depp had misgivings about presenting Neil Young when the moment came.

Depp explained that it was really strange. Then they wanted Depp to read this long statement about the value of music in movies, and he thought to himself, they don’t want to hear this nonsense from him. They’re expecting Neil Young to perform his tune. So Depp told them, he’ll do this, but he is not going to say anything else. The Teleprompter is too far away for him to read. And he is afraid he’ll pass out from anxiety. So he just uttered two lines before saying, ‘Please welcome Neil Young.’ Depp then left right away.

Following his encounter, Depp had a “nicotine seizure” and tried to go as far away from the event as possible. However, Depp and his agent ran into another hurdle when they missed their limo.

He stated that later they couldn’t find their driver. He was someplace drunken. So they really did steal Harrison Ford’s limousine! They informed the driver that there’s still an hour and a half left on this thing. Simply drive them to the hotel and then return. He’ll still be around. Overall, it was a terrible experience for Depp.

Johnny Depp has received three Oscar nominations in his lengthy career. In 2004, he was nominated for best actor for his performance in Pirates of the Caribbean. Finding Neverland, a film about Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie, earned him his second best actor nomination in 2005. Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street earned him his final best actor nomination.
