Depp writes in a long statement following his triumph on Wednesday that six years ago, his life, the lives of my kids, the lives of those closest to him, and also the lives of the individuals who have supported and trusted in him for many, many years were permanently changed. It happened in the blink of an eye.

He goes on, fabricated, extremely serious, and criminal claims were leveled against him in the media, resulting in a continuous bombardment of hostile content, despite the fact that no charges were ever filed against him. Six years later, the jury restored his life. He is very moved.

As previously reported, a jury determined that Heard’s op-ed headed “I stood up against sexual abuse — and faced our culture’s fury” defamed him and awarded him $10.35 million in damages. Heard was granted $2 million in compensatory damages.

Depp explained his choice to continue this action, understanding perfectly well the height of the legal barriers that he would be encountering and the unavoidable, global spectacle into his life, was only decided after much contemplation.

He claims the intention of pursuing this action from the start was to uncover the truth, regardless of the result. Speaking the truth was something he obliged to his kids and to everyone who has continued to support him. He is  relieved that he finally completed that task.

Depp also expresses gratitude to his fans, many of whom were present outside the court, stating he is and have been humbled by the amount of love, support, and compassion from people all across the world. He hopes that his search for the truth has benefited others, men and women alike, who have found themselves in his predicament, and that those who support them never quit. He  also hopes that, both in the courts and in the media, the stance will now be innocent until proven guilty.

Offering thanks to those engaged with the case, he wish to recognize the valuable work of the Judge, the jurors, the court staff, and the Sheriffs who have sacrificed their own time to get to this point, and to his tenacious and resolute legal team who did an unprecedented job in assisting him to share the reality.

Finally, he declares, the best is yet to come, and a new chapter has been opened. Veritas numquam perit. Truth never dies.
