Johnny Depp Wins Defamation Case Against Amber Heard, Jury Awards $15 Million

The jury made their decision Wednesday in Fairfax, Virginia, where they had been debating for the previous several days following a month-plus long trial… with many twists and turns, but more crucially — a mountain of proof and testimony.

On Friday, they heard closing arguments, during which lawyers for Depp and Heard pleaded their cases one more time in a spectacular manner. Camille Vasquez and her colleagues urged jurors to apply common sense, as did AH’s main lawyer, Ben Rottenborn – but with a different spin.

A verdict against Amber, according to Rottenborn, could have terrible consequences for domestic violence victims, sending a message to those who want to tell their stories but lack the most persuasive proof of their suffering, a group into which Amber appeared to belong.

Indeed, while both Johnny and Amber had copious audio recordings of each other during heated arguments. This dispute will now be resolved once and for all through the use of a jury.
The jury just ruled unanimously in favor of Johnny Depp in his lawsuit, ruling that Amber Heard’s characterization of him as a sexual abuser constituted slander. The jury also determined that Heard’s charges in the Washington Post were false. Depp was given $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive penalties by the jury.
Now here’s the catch… Amber was granted $2 million in her slander countersuit.

Since the judge recently told the jury to go back and calculate damages, it looks that the jury has found in favor of Amber, Johnny, or both on their defamation allegations.
