Kind Couple Donates Their Wedding Funds For A Bigger Cause.

Indian weddings are often lavish and can last for an entire week. So when Poonam Kaushal and Nishkaam Mehta were planning their wedding for Valentine’s Day last year, they had to consider that.

Obviously, for such a big, colorful and really, really long ceremony, the couple, who actually live in Santa Monica, had to come up with a budget for it, and that budget was in excess of $20,000. That’s a pretty big wedding.

But here’s the deal… the more Poonam and Nishkaam talked about it, the more they realized that such a magnificent – and costly – ceremony just wasn’t for them. It just didn’t fit.

So the couple decided to have a very low-cost ceremony and donate the rest of the money for it – $20,000 – to feeding children in Africa… or more specifically, to help the children who were impacted by Boko Haram violence. Much of that money is going to provide school meals for the young ones.

Aside from donating themselves, the couple encouraged their family and friends to join with them in their campaign to raise enough money to fund 1 million meals for those children. Their campaign is Called Million Meals for Love
