In Texas, Anthony had been shuffled around in the foster care system for years. Then, he started to connect with his English teacher, Benny Berry. And after a while, he asked her if she would adopt him.
Well, she laughed at first, and thought he was joking. But when she checked on things, she found out that she actually COULD adopt him. And she didn’t take that lightly because she also felt she connected well with 16-year-old Anthony.
For years, the teen never really felt that he WANTED to be adopted, but being around Benny changed that for him, and he wanted her to be his mom more than anything.
So last year, they both went to court and it became official, with lots of smiles, hugs… and tears.
