Man arrested for allegedly shooting ex, ‘executing’ her 9-year-old daughter

According to authorities, a 22-year-old man sought for killing his ex-girlfriend and “executing” her 9-year-old daughter was apprehended in Texas.

Jeremiah Jones was apprehended by a SWAT squad in Houston at 6 p.m. Tuesday after a manhunt, according to the Houston Police Department.

Jones, who was out on bail at the time of the shooting that murdered Khylie Sorrells, 9, and wounded her mother, Brittany, was booked into the Harris County Jail on capital murder and aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon charges. He was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

According to court papers, Brittany Sorrells was watching a film in bed with Khylie and her two other daughters, ages 1 and 7, when Jones arrived at her Oxford Street apartment shortly before 10 p.m.

Sorrells told detectives that Jones, with whom she had split up two months prior after eight months of dating, requested that she give him a television that he wrongly believed was his.

Jones then removed the TV from the wall and went into the living room, where Sorrells followed. As the two continued to argue, the guy demanded that Sorrells hand over her phone.

According to the woman, her ex-boyfriend blamed her for seeing another person and grew enraged when he discovered she had been contacting somebody.

As per authorities, Jones then returned to the bedroom where Sorrells’ kids were alone and fired two rounds. He reportedly returned to the living room, pushed Sorrells to the ground, and shot her in the shoulder before escaping in a Chevy Camaro.

Brittany dashed to her kids and discovered Khylie shot in the head on the floor. Her other two girls were unhurt. Jones “killed” the girl, according to Houston police Lt J.P. Horelica, perhaps as “vengeance” for the separation.

Khylie was confirmed dead at a nearby hospital after her mom and daughter were transferred there. Brittany was treated and released for her wounds.

The mother hailed her 9-year-old daughter as a talented basketball player who liked producing TikTok videos in the description of a GoFundMe campaign she started to aid with her child’s burial costs.

She wrote that she wouldn’t want this kind of agony on anyone. She wants justice for her family.

Khylie was a member of the Houston Police Department’s Police Activities League programme, according to Chief Troy Finner.

“This cowardly act of domestic violence affects me and the HPD family,” he said. “We request that the community pray for this angel, her mom, and her family.”

Jones was out on bail at the time of the attack, according to Horelica. He is also charged with breaking a protection order issued by Sorrells.

According to court records, Sorrells alleged last week that Jones had threatened to shoot her dead. In addition, the woman called the police four times in the last month about her ex-boyfriend.

The 22-year-old has a lengthy criminal history dating back a decade, involving robbery and terroristic threats.
