Manager Fires The Woman When Said It’s Impossible For Her To Come For Work As Her Son Was On Life Support.
Some families, unfortunately, have to deal with very sick children. It makes it awful tough, especially when jobs are involved. You certainly want an understanding employer if your child is going through a really rough time. That, however, is not always the case.
In Albion, Michigan, Crystal Fisher’s 18-year-old son fell sick with what appeared to be sepsis. She rushed him to the hospital and he was immediately put on life support. Yes, it was that bad. So Crystal messaged her Folk Oil gas station boss through text that she would not be available to work for the next few days because of the terrible illness of her son. She presumed there would be no problem… her son was on LIFE SUPPORT!!!
But Crystal was in for a very disheartening response, which was from her manager, a woman named Dawn. After Crystal explained what was going on, this is what Dawn responded: “That isn’t how we do things here, so I’ll accept that you’re quitting…. I will not tolerate drama. End of conversation.”
When Crystal wrote back emphasizing her son was on life support and that she was NOT quitting, Dawn responded with: “If you can’t come to work, that’s you quitting.”
Crystal quickly posted the text conversation to Facebook, and it was shared more than 70,000 times, with lots and lots of comments condemning the cold-hearted manager.
So my son is on life support and I tell my boss 48 hours before I am to work again that I will not be able to work until my son is off life support and this is what she tells me!Posted by Crystal Reynolds Fisher on Saturday, 30 June 2018
When news of what happened reached the corporate office of Folk Oil, a statement was released. And this is what it said: “We would like to follow up on the issue brought to our attention recently regarding how an employee time off request was handled by one of our managers. We investigated and have found that the situation was handled improperly and without the compassion that we value as a company. For that, we are very sorry.
As a result of this finding, we took quick action and that manager is no longer employed by (us). We have also reaffirmed to our employee that she will be able to take all the time off that she needs during this difficult period. We would like to thank the public for their concern.
Signed, Folk Oil Company.

So if there are any cold-hearted managers tuning into this, consider yourself put on notice. Hatefulness to your employees will NOT be tolerated.
