Melissa Etheridge breaks silence after David Crosby’s death: “He gave me the gift of family”

Crosby died, January 19, according to sources, following a spectacular career that saw him accomplish the extremely uncommon achievement of being elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.

Melissa Etheridge was among those mourning the passing of the gifted vocalist; Crosby was the sperm donor who helped Etheridge conceive.

Etheridge wrote that she is mourning the death of David, her buddy and Bailey and Beckett’s biological father. He bestowed upon her the gift of family. She shall be eternally thankful to him, Django, and Jan. His songs and legacy will continue to inspire future generations. A genuine gem.

Crosby, who rose to prominence with a 1965 cover of Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man” that went to No. 1 in both the United States and the United Kingdom, provided the sperm for Arrangements and her then-partner Julie Cypher’s children, Bailey, 25, and Becket, who died from an opioid addiction in 2020.

During an interview in 2000, Etheridge disclosed that Crosby was her and Cypher’s donor.

Crosby responded to a tweet that purported to imply he had no touch with Beckett after his death in 2020.

Crosby disagreed with it.

His wife announced the 81-year-old’s death in a statement- It is with tremendous regret that they announce the passing of their dear David (Croz) Crosby after a lengthy illness, she added.

He was affectionately surrounded by his wife and sweetheart Jan, as well as his son Django. Despite the fact that he is no longer with them, his humanism and loving soul will continue to lead and motivate them. His great songs will continue to carry on his legacy.

Peace, love, and harmony to those who knew David and those he impacted, she ended. They shall all miss him terribly. They politely and humbly request privacy at this time while they grieve and attempt to cope with their tremendous loss. They thanked all for their support and prayers.

Crosby described his contribution to music as a “lifting force” in 2019.

David Crosby, rest in peace, and thank you for all the music and memories.
