Delusional MIL Refuses To Call Grandkids By the Names Mom Gave Them.

The beautiful part about naming your child is that it is entirely up to you. Nobody else gets to name your child except you and your spouse, even if you want to attempt something unusual or crazy – that’s one of the perks of becoming a parent. In this story a lady whose mother-in-law did not appear to follow the baby-name restrictions, and she now refuses to call her new granddaughter by the name that her parents lovingly gave her. It started when I was pregnant with my first of two daughters. Mil is very religious and I’m not. So there’s a huge divide on that. She wanted me to name my first daughter Amazing Grace. I would rather gargle broken glass and gasoline. I politely declined or changed the subject a few times. So what did she do?

She said “Y’all can name her whatever you want, but I’m gonna call her Mazie. Short for Amazing Grace. Who the F does that?

So we’ve been dealing with that for 5 years. We also have an (almost) 2yr old. Her dad chose her middle name. MIL only calls her by that or a coutry-fied version of it.

I’m sure it wouldn’t be so annoying if I didn’t have to hear her do it every single day, but regardless. She’s a B. What are your opinions? Am I overreacting? Please don’t be afraid to criticize. Thank you for your time in advance. Here are a few comments on the story where it was originally posted:
