Mother Proves “You Don’t Need To Be Wealthy To Be A Good Parent”

Source: Reddit

When I got pregnant the first time, every man and his dog decided to give my husband and I an unsolicited lecture on what a financial “burden” children were. How expensive kids are… Daycare… etc.

Despite my husband and I both being well-qualified and employed full-time in ordinary paying jobs we were both scared sh*tless and saved and scrimped for the next nine months.

When our little darling finally came along we found that it wasn’t this financial avalanche that we’d been expecting and other than baby-specific onetime purchases we mostly spend the increase in our budget on nappies/diapers and the clothes our baby/toddler grows out of.

I’m sick of reading everywhere that kids are so expensive to have.

Kids don’t need expensive toys or lots of material positions at all. My son spent all day playing with a cardboard box. They need emotionally available, responsive, and loving parents.
