Neighbors Gave $98k To A Boy With Rare Skin Condition.

In Staten Island, New York, in the neighborhood of Tottenville, a teenage boy deals daily with a rare disease that causes his skin to blister and peel, leaving what amounts to second- and third-degree burns.

The 14-year-old pretty much lives in constant pain. John Hudson Dilgen’s family started a GoFundMe page to raise money to build a new bathroom in their home with a special hydrotherapy tub… something that could give John some relief and heal his skin quicker.

When the family’s neighbors found out about the fundraiser, they started giving… a lot. Within two days, the campaign had reached its goal. But it wasn’t done. After a week, donations had reached $98,000.

Says John’s mom, Faye: “It’s been a tremendous response. It’s been far and away nothing we ever expected.”

John also got some more good news… he was accepted into a clinical trial for a gene therapy treatment at Stanford.
