Queen Of The Rom-com Meg Ryan Returns With New Romance Film — Here Are The Details

Meg Ryan is making a comeback in romantic comedies.

The “Sleepless in Seattle” star, 60, is going to direct and feature in the upcoming “What Happens Later,” with former “X-Files” actor David Duchovny.

Ryan affirmed the news herself on Tuesday, posting a promotional image for the film with the message “HERE WE GO!!”

Obviously, Ryan rose to prominence in the 1980s and 1990s as the hero of some of Hollywood’s most adored romantic comedies, including “When Harry Met Sally…”, “Sleepless in Seattle,” and “You’ve Got Mail.”

Her ageless aesthetics from those films even became a TikTok craze last autumn.

“What Happens Later” depicts the tale of previous lovers Willa (Ryan) and Bill (Duchovny), who can’t resist but reconcile decades later when both find themselves “snowed in, in-transit, at an airport overnight.”

Willa is characterized as an “independent spirit” who is unattached, whereas Bill, who just divorced, is “reconsidering his life and his connections with his estranged wife and daughter.” The two spend their unexpected night together reminiscing about their past and fantasizing about what may have been.

The film is based on American writer Steven Dietz’s play “Shooting Star.” Dietz collaborated on the screenplay with Ryan and author Kirk Lynn.

Fans reacted positively to Ryan’s tweet, expressing to her they can’t wait to see her on the big screen again. “Finally! You’ve been sorely missed! “one of them wrote n to co-write the film’s screenplay. “Oh my goodness, this made my day! I’m really looking forward to meeting you! “Another spilled out.

Ryan will helm his second feature film, “What Happens Later.” She made her directorial debut in 2015 with the drama “Ithaca,” starring the late Sam Shephard.
