Robert De Niro Teared Up While Sharing Challenges Faced by Autistic Son Who He Fought to Get Custody Of

Actor Robert De Niro and his second spouse, Grace Hightower, met at a club in London in 1987 and stared dating. He divorced his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, in 1988 and they share two kids, son Raphael and daughter Drena.

De Niro and Hightower took a pause in the 90s and he moved on with Toukie Smith who was a model and restauranteur and has twin sons. However, their association did not last.

De Niro came close with Hightower again and the pair tied the knot 1997 and their son, Elliot was born in 1998. Regrettably, when Elliot was just 17 months, surprisingly the pair divided.  

The parting raised an intense custody fight between the twosome. It was testified that initially, De Niro was permitted to see his son thrice a week with somebody personally allocated by Hightower.

De Niro was not in pact and he disputed his wife’s demands and filed to have overnight stays with Elliot. But Hightower denied this since she sensed that she required to defend her child.

Both of them wanted what was best for Elliot and ultimately, they got common ground and the separation also never got settled.

The pair amazed followers and family another time when they reconciled and they decided to renew their vows in a close setting. The duo extended their family in 2011 and had their daughter Helen via surrogate.

De Niro has kept his own life secluded in spite of being one of America’s most famed actors. The couple managed to keep their kids away from the fame, particularly their son Elliot. De Niro and Hightower have made a limited Hollywood appearances with their kids, but the Di Niro children have also preferred the subdued life as they have grownup.

In a talk, the actor spoke about the honorary biopic about his father. He said he formed it to install the significance of family and having time with them while they are around. Di Niro’s father passed away in 1993 to cancer and he wished if he had spent more time his father.  

In a discussion about a movie which was based on the director’s individual story of his child who fights Bipolar, he could hardly speak when asked if he associated to the script. Di Niro spurt into tears instantly and ultimately said he completely understood what the dictator was going through.

Though, De Niro’s sensitive response made sense a few years later when he revealed that his son Elliot has autism. He said that they have a child with autism and they trust that it is grave that all of the matters close the roots of autism be willingly deliberated and scrutinized.

De Niro and Hightowers called off their union in 2018 after giving their nuptial a second chance but he remains devoted parents to their two children.
