‘SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING’: Stepfather found guilty after waitress uses secret note to save child

One year after a waitress’ good eye and fast reasoning protected his assault victim, culminating in his initial arrest, a Florida man was convicted convicted of child abuse, authorities said.

Timothy Lee Wilson, 36, was convicted of various child abuse charges originating from an arrest on New Year’s Day 2021 when his waitress, Flaviane Carvalho, feared he was harming a kid in his custody.

Wilson was held guilty on Monday of false imprisonment of a kid under the age of 13, three charges of severe child abuse with a weapon, four counts of aggravated child abuse, and one crime of child neglect.

“Justice prevails,” Carvalho remarked after the decision was read aloud. “He [the victim] is now well. He is well-liked. His expression and demeanour indicate that he is considerably better today.”

On New Year’s Day 2021, Carvalho, a manager at Mrs. Potato Restaurant in Orlando, Florida, was waitressing a table for Wilson and his family when she realised the guy had not purchased any food for an 11-year-old child at the table.

Wilson, the boy’s stepfather, allegedly promised Carvalho that the kid would eat at home, but it didn’t make her feel any better after she spotted scratches and scars on the boy’s face and arms. As a result, she acted.

Carvalho subsequently said she could notice he had a large scrape between his brows. A few minutes later, she noticed a scar on the side of his eye. So she knew there was something seriously wrong.

Carvalho, who has 2 kids of her own, attracted the boy’s focus and swiftly slipped him a concealed message inquiring if he needed assistance. Carvalho contacted the cops when the youngster responded in agreement.

She is pleased that the abuser is facing justice and that the child has a pretty good shot in life, Carvalho said.

During a media briefing, authorities explained the child’s ordeal as horror. A cop stated that seeing what the 11-year-old had to go through breaks their heart.

The boy’s stepfather was later shown to have habitually assaulted and tormented him. According to the report, medical personnel determined the youngster had wounds all over his body and was underweight.

Carvalho told, she was used by God as an instrument to aid him. One needs to pay more attention to those who are in need and take action to improve the scenario.

Carvalho stated that the little guy was quite courageous. By taking a stand against this monster, he not only rescued himself, but he also protected his younger sister. She is quite proud of him. He is the protagonist.

Officials reportedly stated that the child was secluded on many occasions, made to starve as punishment, hung upside down, and spent Christmas Day chained to a dolly. He was also made to perform strenuous workouts, and if he failed, he would be thrashed, according to officials.

Carvalho vouched for the maltreatment at the preliminary and was credited with protecting the kid’s life.

They would have definitely been discussing a potential homicide investigation if she hadn’t acted when she did, Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon said.

Kristen Swann, the boy’s mom, was also accused with two counts of child negligence after she told police she was aware about the assault but did not act, according to authorities.

Wilson’s sentencing date has been set for August 19, 2022, according to Ninth Judicial Circuit State Attorney Monique H. Worrell.’

Carvalho apparently maintains touch with the child more than a year later.
