She graduated from college the day after her 82nd birthday

If you’ve been thinking about going back to school, this is your indication that it’s not too late.

Mae Beale, an 82-year-old retiree, just graduated from the University of Maryland Global Campus with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management (UMGC).

According to a school press release, Beale opted to go back to school in her late 70s. She earned her graduation on May 18, the day after her 82nd birthday.

Beale formerly worked as a licensed practical nurse in Washington, DC, according to the announcement. She helped design numerous huge events while working at the Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, which encouraged a career change.

According to the statement, Beale launched her own event organizing firm in 1994, at the age of 54, and began working on her associate degree in Business Management at Howard Community College.

She opted to pursue a bachelor’s degree one class at a time after finishing the associate degree program.

She explained in a press statement that she wanted to make sure she had enough time to commit to whatever class she was attending. She resembled the turtle. The race is won by going slowly and steadily. She found that she needed to be deliberate about it and make it a priority.

Beale was an excellent student despite being older than the majority of her peers. During her stay at UMGC, she graduated with honors and was on the dean’s list three times.

Beale was among 3,300 graduates from the classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022, according to Bob Ludwig, associate vice president of public relations at the institution. She graduated in the class of 2020, however owing to the coronavirus epidemic, the school has not had an in-person graduation ceremony since 2019.

Beale, a community champion who serves on numerous local boards in Maryland, informed the university that the degree has given her more confidence.
