She Proved Her Friendship During This Lockdown.

Story by Laura Mazza

It’s amazing how friendships can blossom in such a short time.

I met Julia in December. But we have kinda been inseparable since. Having lockdown has sucked and I said to her that we should both go to the same supermarket to shop that way we can see each other in the aisles from 1.5 meters away.

When she asked me if I was going to the shop, I told her that I wasn’t because I’m in pyjamas. Actually truth be told the depression of being inside has set in. It’s been creeping up but today was one of those days. We have had torrential rain so even going for a walk hasn’t been an option.

I told her that I was feeling really low and just didn’t have the energy to even go to the shop.

A short time later she came to my house, with a bag of shopping and from 1.5 meters away she placed a bag of stuff for dinner, for the kids, my favourite chocolates (she remembered!), a face mask, hair products, the works!

And from 1.5 meters away I no longer felt like crying sad tears but felt like crying happy tears. Either way I was crying because I’m an emotional wreck with furry teeth from not brushing them.

I was so happy, although, not being able to hug the shit out of her sucks.

That’s what best friends are! They don’t care about what you look like, how much money you make, what you do for a living. If you’ve hit rock bottom, they just care about bringing you back.

And that’s what she did.

Friendships aren’t necessarily about who you’ve known the longest, but who came into your life and said I’m here for you, and proved it.
