Toddler fatally shoots South Carolina mom with ‘unsecured firearm,’ sheriff says

According to local officials, a South Carolina woman was accidently shot and murdered by her 3-year-old kid this week.

Deputies were summoned to a residence at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday about a gunshot; inside, they discovered the victim, 33-year-old Cora Lyn Bush, her mother, and her kid, according to a press post on Facebook from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Bush was sent to the hospital and died soon before 10 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies interrogated Bush’s mom, whose narrative fit both the evidence at the scene and Bush’s wounds.

The investigation is ongoing, but authorities believe the shooting was unintentional. According to the sheriff’s office, the gun was unprotected, which is how the toddler gained access to it.

On Thursday, a forensic autopsy will be performed.
