Two high school students killed in car crash on their way to prom – rest in peace

Kalen Hart and her prom companion, Lendon Byram, were killed in the crash on Saturday, May 1. Kalen was a senior at Hamilton Heights High School, while Lendon went to Cathedral High School.

They are extremely grieved by the loss of one of their own as a result of injuries received in a traffic accident, the Hamilton Heights School Corporation said in a statement on Sunday. These families and their school community have suffered an unspeakable tragedy.

The collision happened about 5:15 p.m. local time near Arcadia, some 35 miles north of Indianapolis.  At the scene, Kalen and Lendon were declared dead.

Lendon is alleged to have driven the car, while Kalen sat in the passenger seat. There were two other high-school-aged passengers in the automobile, both of whom were brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.

Grief is a personal experience, and everyone experiences and processes loss and trauma differently, according to the HHSC.

Jody Bartrom Conaway, Kalen’s mother, posted a fundraising on Facebook.

On her way to prom, her 18-year-old daughter and her boyfriend were murdered in a car crash. Never should a parent have to bury their kid, she wrote.

My heart goes out to these unfortunate kids and their bereaved families. Kalen Hart and Lendon Bryam, may the two young souls rest in peace!
