Waiter’s Kindness Towards This Old Man Eating Alone Will Brighten Your Day.

In Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, Lisa Meilander and her family stopped into an Eat’n Park restaurant for a Saturday night dinner. They were seated quickly and their server was a young man named Dylan. As Dylan attended to his duties, an elderly man came into the restaurant and sat down.

When Dylan walked over to him, he made sure to get down on one knee so he could look the elderly man directly in the eyes while talking to him. The man had forgotten his hearing aid, he told Dylan, and he said he lost much of his hearing while serving in the war.

Dylan listened very intently as the elderly man told another story or two. Then the man apologized for taking up too much of the young man’s time. But Dylan shook his head; told him he didn’t mind at all, that he really enjoyed listening to him. “I’m all alone now,” the man told Dylan. “And I don’t often have someone to talk to.”

Dylan smiled and helped the man figure out what he wanted for dinner. He then went back to the kitchen area to put in the order. Lisa and her family were so touched by the man, that they wanted to pay for his meal. But before they could flag down Dylan, another man nearby stopped the waiter and went ahead and paid for the man’s meal.

When the elderly man’s food was ready, Dylan brought it to him and then told the man he was getting ready to take his break. He then asked the man if he could sit with him during that time. That man was delighted that he had someone… a nice, young man… to talk to for awhile. And Dylan sat there his entire break, enjoying his new friend’s stories.

Many people sitting nearby were very touched by this. Says Lisa, in posting about the incident on Facebook: “With all of the negative stories about our youth today, this was a breath of fresh air. I wonder if I would have been as kind and attentive if I were the one working there. One thing’s for sure, if you are ever at Eat’n Park in Belle Vernon, ask for Dylan. If he’s your waiter, you’re certain to get great service.”

The elderly gentleman was seated in the booth directly across from my family as we ate dinner Saturday night at Eat’n…
