Who are Queen Elizabeth’s children? What to know about her 4 kids

Queen Elizabeth II, the only British monarch to have reigned for 70 years, died Sept. 8 at Balmoral, her royal palace in Scotland, one year after Prince Philip died at the age of 99.

Elizabeth and Philip had four children: King Charles III (73), Princess Anne (72), Prince Andrew (62), and Prince Edward (58).

Following her death, Charles, who instantly became king, issued a statement through Buckingham Palace.

The passing of his loving mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a time of tremendous sorrow for him and all members of his family, it said.

They grieve terribly the departure of a beloved Sovereign and Mother, he said, and he knows her loss will be felt deeply across the country, the Realms, and the Commonwealth, as well as by innumerable individuals around the world.

During this time of loss and change, his family and he will be reassured and supported by their awareness of the Queen’s widespread esteem and heartfelt affection, Charles said.

In the minutes coming up to Elizabeth’s death, Charles and the rest of his siblings hurried to her side.

More information about the queen’s children may be found below.

King Charles III

King Charles III is the firstborn son of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. On November 14, 1948, he was born.

Charles has two children, Prince William, 40, and Prince Harry, 37, with his late ex-wife, Princess Diana.

From 1981 through 1996, they were married. Diana died from injuries received in a horrific vehicle accident in Paris one year after they separated.

Charles remarried in 2005, when he married Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

After Elizabeth, Charles was first in line for the British throne, as per the line of succession. His wife will be a queen consort now that he is king.

As part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year, Elizabeth expressed her wish for Camilla to become queen consort.

This anniversary also provides her with an opportunity to reflect on the kindness shown to her by individuals of all countries, beliefs, and ages in this country and across the world over these years, the queen said in a February statement. She wants to thank each and every one for their help. She will be eternally thankful for, and touched by, one’s continued dedication and love.

And when, in due course, her son Charles becomes King, she knows one will offer him and his wife Camilla the same support that one has given her; and it is her genuine prayer that, when that time comes, the statement concludes.

Princess Anne

Princess Anne is Queen Elizabeth II’s and Prince Philip’s only daughter. Her birthday is August 15, 1950.

Anne married her first husband, Olympic gold medalist Mark Phillips, in 1973. They were married for over 20 years until divorcing in 1992.

Peter, 44, and Zara, 41, are Anne and Phillips’ two children.

Anne married her second husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, the same year she divorced Phillips.

Anne is most remembered as the first British royal to compete in the Olympics. She participated in the three-day equestrian event at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. She finished the Games in 24th place overall.

Anne is now 15th in line for the British throne.

Prince Andrew

Prince Andrew is the third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. On February 19, 1960, he was born.

Andrew has two children with his ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York: Princess Beatrice, 34, and Princess Eugenie, 32.

From 1986 through 1996, Andrew and Sarah were married.

Andrew stepped down from public life in 2019 due to his relationship with suspected sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. He stated at the time that his “previous affiliation” with Epstein had caused a “serious interruption” in the royal family’s activities.

The queen supported Andrew’s choice, and in January, Buckingham Palace stated that Andrew had lost many royal honours as a result of the controversy.

The Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to The Queen with The Queen’s approval and agreement, the statement said.

Andrew is now the ninth in line to the British throne following Elizabeth’s death.

Prince Edward

Prince Edward is the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. On March 10, 1964, he was born.

Edward and his wife of 23 years, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, have two children: Lady Louise Windsor, 18, and James, Viscount Severn, 14.

Prince Edward is now the 12th heir to the throne.
