Why This Woman Quit Her Job To Live Like A 50s Housewife.

In today’s crazy hectic world, with many people going lightning fast, it’s nice to take a break and think about the old days when life was quite a bit more carefree.

One woman has decided to take that notion a big step further. Katrina Holte was very happy with her husband of three years, Lars. But she wasn’t all that happy with her job. So she quit it, and decided to live fully as a 1950s housewife.

She’s 30 years old and, obviously, has lived no part of her life back in the ’50s. But she has transformed her entire lifestyle to live the one of a housewife back several decades ago. And in doing do, she’s even changed the look inside her Hillsboro, Oregon, home to resemble that of a home during that era. So in keeping with that ’50s lifestyle, Katrina spends her days sewing and making dresses. And she always has dinner ready and on the table when husband Lars gets home from work.

Says Katrina: “I feel like I’m living how I always wanted to. It’s my dream life and my husband shares my vision. It is a lot of work. I do tons of dishes, laundry and ironing, but I love it and it’s helping to take care of my husband and that makes me really happy. When I look at everything that is happening in the world now, I feel like I belong in a nicer, more old-fashioned time. I agree with old-fashioned values, like being a housewife, taking care of your family, nurturing the people in it and keeping your house in excellent condition, so everyone feels relaxed.”

But before Katrina switched over to the ’50s lifestyle, she asked her husband if she could quit her job and do what she has long wanted to do. He told her he was fine with that decision.

Now she begins every day at 6:30 a.m. laying out Lars’ work clothes. Then she will make him his breakfast and pack his lunch. Once he’s off to work, where he’s an engineering manager, Katrina will make a small breakfast for herself and then do some soft exercises. After the 15-minute workout, she puts on her face with lots of makeup, and then styles her hair. There’s lots of red lipstick and hot rollers. And after she’s all made up, she does her daily chores, tidying up the house.

When she gets caught up with that, she starts dinner, using old-fashioned recipes from a kinder time. There are pot roasts, chicken pies and plenty of vegetables. And after she and Lars have dinner they unwind by playing old board games or watching those lovable vintage TV shows like “I Love Lucy” or “The Donna Reed Show.”

Katrina realizes this lifestyle might not be for everyone, but for her it’s perfect. Just like the thought of that bygone era.
