Woman Shares How She Spent Her Time With Her 7 Kids.

Story by Susan Stevens (Author)

In the mid 70’s my best friend Patsy and I spent a lot of time together. Between the two of us, we had 9 children to entertain. The youngest of my 5 sons and 2 daughters was two years older than the older of her 2 daughters. They were a handful, but they were good kids and we had a lot of fun with them.

Patsy has a great sense of humor and even though she doesn’t think so, she has a very quick wit. On occasion our humor would get the best of us, but nothing delighted our children more than when Patsy and I were on the same wavelength with our humor. I remember two times when our spontaneity caused more than one eyebrow to go up.

I don’t remember if it was the premier season, or if it was just the first time we had watched Wonder Woman, but I remember the rest of the night well. The eleven of us were quiet as we watched the show. Then when Lynda Carter stood in the middle of a room and began to spin around….wow! Almost as though we’d been programmed to respond, Patsy and I jumped up from the couch and begin to spin. As you can guess, the metamorphosis didn’t work for us, but the looks on the faces of our kids were worth the try. Some laughed, some were confused, and others just looked at us like we were crazy. We loved it.

Another time we were watching television and it was a commercial that got the best of us. In this commercial, an overweight woman was breathlessly jogging toward the camera when a bus passed in front of her. On the side of the bus was some type of weight loss advertisement. When the bus finished going by the woman was still jogging toward the camera, but she was much, much thinner. As Patsy and I headed for the door we heard, “Where are you going?” Turning around to face the curious eyes of our kids we chimed in unison, “Looking for that bus!!”
